When Bush comes to shove...

There is no other man:

44 on the floor in 4/4 time.

Anything other than this would most likely induce a bevy of myocardial infarctions in all and sundry.

Speaking of the need for medical assistance, exhibit A:

Come closer little one.

Not sure what is going on here but we all deserve a lil' hug on the odd occasion. Georgie Boy certainly has a lot to answer for.

Don't use my song in vain.

What does the hug from this bunny mean exactly? With the help of the mystic powers of the anagram we can move closer to understanding...

George W Bush = Webs Gore Hug. That bunny is not who you think it is...

George Walker Bush = Breaker Legs Hug Ow! Poor injured bunny. He needs an Energiser or two.

Exhibit B: McCain's singing efforts. Nothing short of COMPLETELY inappropriate.

How does he fare?

John McCain = Jam Inch Con. A sticky shortfall.

John Sidney McCain = Jehad Cosmic Ninny. 'Nuff said.

The end.

Foie Gras...

As per my post of last Tuesday titled 'R.I.P and near death experiences', there was mention of foie gras.

It is yummy.

However, you can purchase this in snack form for your dog.

I'm a little princess

Diamantes were so last season.

As the author notes, it is hard to determine to whether this is a lower-end luxury item or a super luxury item. I think that's an irrelevant question. Relevant questions to ask here include: (1) are the people who own these dogs clinically insane? (2) how do these people take themselves seriously? etc.

I hate myself.

Haute couture all the way.

Power to the pooch.

Backbench Beat

First, my sincerest of sincere apologies for being MIA over the last few days. I can only say that the irksome hindrance that is most commonly referred to as "full time employment" is to blame for my absence. While this FT employment thing purports to be a worthwhile enterprise (mostly in a fiscal sense), we all know that in the cold, harsh light of reality, the fortnightly additions to one’s transaction account tend to be offset by the decline in one’s will to live.

In fact, let me just point the finger at one little incident in particular:

Show us your derivatives Daryl

Ahem.

On a lighter note, it is time to celebrate our unsung political heroes. Those among us that are not necessarily at the forefront of policy. Those among us that tend to be pushed out of the public spotlight by their political party counterparts. Those among us that you would not know existed if they were not your local MP (Antony Green being the exception).

Yes that’s right. It’s time to celebrate the backbenchers. In this regular segment, we will look at how backbenchers do their bit for this sunburnt country of ours. We will look at:
  • the degree to which they have their fingers on the “pulse”
  • how they devote their energies wisely to “making a difference”
  • whether they strive to bridge the "gap" between the politics we need and the politics we have
  • whether their political "desires" are manufactured or channelled directly from their cruel little souls a la Exorcist

As you know (because you are a smart little cookie), a backbencher is an MP that is not a minister or shadow minister. Backbenchers sit in the backbenches (very tricky that).

Episode 1 – The Cheeky Cheesologist (the CC)
Darren Cheeseman is the local MP of the seat of Corangamite. Great Ocean Road territory.

Triple cream brie for me.

Prior to winning his seat at the last election, the Liberals had held the seat for a very, VERY long time. In fact, the existing candidate was so old and decrepit, his next job surely had to be scheduling hip replacement surgery or perhaps even organising his prepaid funeral.

So how did the CC win the seat? Well it was a bit of luck, a bit of demographic change in the electorate, a bit of thinking among the electorate that Workchoices was the devil’s spawn… In fact, in this convoluted hodge podge called 'life', it is not really clear why the feck he won, but he did.

CC’s best hits
Just prior to the election, the CC announced he was commissioning some sort of study to see whether it would be cost-effective to build a stadium in Long Gee so they can get an A-League team.

A fine political promise. Perhaps the suggestion that we abandon the use of the term ‘soccer’ is going a bit far though! Baby steps...

Shortly after the election, the CC’s wife punched out a kiddy and he got all mushy in his first parliamentary speech. Obviously, he was so struck by the moment that for a brief time, the rest of the world slowly fell away…

FOCUS please!

Then it was on to infrastructure in that way where you are announcing to do something without really doing anything. But an announcable nonetheless.

And most recently, water efficiency. Looks like a small dice proposition but you never know, this may be potentially worthwhile even if its not press release worthy.

I expect bigger and better things from the CC in the near future.

Now off to watch Barack...

Tuesday's grey except for...

1) Interest rate cut.

2) Last song in Juno, particularly:
Up up down down left right left right B A start
Just because we use cheats doesn't mean we're not smart
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else

Tony returns from the dead - why oh why?

Now I am quite partial to a bit of 24. And I am a LARGE fan of Tony Almeida. He puts Macgyver to shame. His strong command of the English language - yah, uh-huh, aight - is a sheer viewing pleasure.

BUT love aside, you can't do a back-from-the-dead with Tony. He is more than that FOX Broadcasting! The man died in quite traumatic fashion after trying to avenge Michelle's death. The man died in Jack's arms. The man DIED.

Should I have seen this coming?

Most likely. You see, 24 is a complex little show. It has a clear policy on death. Only when they use the silent clock are people truly dead or at least some punk has had a pretty decent shot at offing someone.

Silent clock usage includes:
  • Day 1 - Teri Bauer was killed at the hands of nasty Nina Myers in the last hour.
  • Day 2 - (1) George Mason leaving CTU and (2) the crappy attempt to kill President Palmer.
  • Day 3 - After Jack had to kill Ryan Chappelle.
  • Day 5 - Edgar Stiles dies after inhaling lungfulls of nerve gas.
  • Day 6 - Jack says bye bye to Audrey Raines.
Important moments that are not characterised by silent clock usage:
  • Season 4.
  • Death of Tony.

Tony, you are my hero.

Pants through the ages.

Another 'Toothpaste For Dinner' classic.

Big Dimmy is moving on up.

Yes that's right folks, a life-sized dim sim will be a new, notable and highly noticeable addition to the roof of a shopping centre in Clarendon St, South Melbourne. WTF????????????

This is a hoax but I wish, I WISH, it was real.
*Jaw drops*

After my initial shock, the more I think about this, the more I think this is a wonderful idea. Whoever came up with this absolute corker -- while they appear to have been mixing an entire galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers (hmmm this sounds like the start of a movie) in with their morning cereal -- deserves an AM or some sort of medal thingy from John So for their marketing efforts. Fair dinkum.

The Dimmy is an Aussie institution. It is a pivotal part of everyday living in this country. It is on the same scale of greatness foodwise as Locke and Descartes are to philosophy and the Coen Brothers and Michael Mann are to films.

But the Dimmy has had a long and checkered history.

Dimmy: this is your life.

1. ORIGINS OF THE DIMMY
In 1945, William Wing Young, father of Elizabeth Chong (prominent Melbourne author and master teacher of Chinese Cuisine) produced the first Aussie Dim Sim in his restaurant Wing Lee.

The Aussie Dim Sim being the 'same same but different' version of the Chinese Dim Sim (basically he made the bloody thing bigger).

"My father was the first to create the style and shape and the commercial production of the Dim Sim," says Elizabeth, his daughter. "He chose the thick skin for ease of transport; he used to deliver them in his Chevy to the football where he set up in competition with the Four-and-Twenty pie. Before long, his factory was producing thousands of them for sale throughout Australia."

*Wipes tear*

2. THE DIMMY DEVELOPS A CULT FOLLOWING
Ken Cheng, Dimmy extraordinaire, started selling boutique, world famous Dimmies at a stall in South Melbourne market in 1949. People used to fly in from far away places like Sydney and Adelaide to sample these tasty yet inexpensive fried delights.

The Dimmy then began to permeate through all fish and chip shops in outer suburbia and beyond. It was that great.

3. THE DIMMY'S DEMISE
Quick, nasty imitation Dimmies were introduced. Salmonella incidents were reported. And much much worse - a tragic death caused by Dimmy. Bad Dimmy. Bad.

4. DEATH OF DIMMY MASTER
Two years ago ol' mate Ken died. This ended a Dimmy dynasty. A dark hour for the Dimmy. Very dark.

5. THE DIMMY ENSHRINED ON THE TOP OF A SHOPPING CENTRE (AT LEAST AS A CONCEPT, NOT IN A PRACTICAL SENSE)
And that brings us to the present day. Good times are ahead for the Dimmy. Lest we forget it's greatness.

Stay true to yourself Dimmy.
